Eight coaches have been appointed to the NZ U16 Domestic Tour with the goal to engage and develop their technical and tactical skills in a High-Performance setting.
This tour will provide opportunities to four new coaches, including Serena McDougall of Marlborough.
McDougall started her coaching journey 12 years ago when she put her hand up to volunteer.
A decision that has allowed her the opportunity to develop and pass knowledge on to our youth.
“Touch teaches more than just the technical aspects of a game. It gives them life lessons that are important when they break out into the real world. Something I’m proud to be a part of.”
For Fredo Morgan of Counties Manukau, this will be his second year on Tour. He’s privileged to be surrounded by a network of experienced coaches who he can draw knowledge from.
“I’m fortunate to work alongside experienced coaches in Counties. But this tour lets me connect with other upcoming coaches and family men like Steven Beazley and Karl Samupo.”
The tour helps coaches enhance their knowledge base and improve consistency in delivery.
Peter McIntyre Pathways and High Performance Coaching Support, says it’s an eye-opening experience for the coaches.
“The consistency of backing up each day when the games are of that high intensity can be draining” said McIntyre, “but the coaches are eager and willing to engage our athletes which makes the learning and development process effective.”
